Training Through Written Instruction

I strongly believe in the power of training and providing adequate information for the sake of learning. With my past position as a territory manager I discovered that solely training via word of mouth was inefficient and an unrealistic long-term solution, especially given that I was unable to work with new hires everyday. As a solution I paired word of mouth teaching with written instruction and information, which in the long run, resulted in significantly better performance from my new hires. While I cannot present all the trainings I have created, here are a few simple guides that I created to help with training.

How to Make a Tissue Paper Flower

S&K is an American vendor representative company working in overseas American military communities. This leads to many logistical challenges including being limited on seasonal promotional materials. As such, we were often tasked with creating our own decorations. For Cinco de Mayo 2020 we decided to make tissue paper flowers, but in order to lessen the workload I made instructions so that other employees could assist in making these colorful beauties without in person training due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Tobacco Survey Checklist

The most important task required while at S&K was sending tobacco surveys to the tobacco company. As this was a very particular task, in order to ensure success from employees I created a checklist that could be used in conjunction with other written instructions. Despite oftentimes being hours away from employees I was able to maintain successful performance thanks to these written instructions.

How to Use the Scanner

Training for day to day tasks was also particularly difficult at my position with S&K. While I will not add my full day-to-day task trainings, here is a short page that includes how to use the in store scanner. This was very important so that our employees did not have to rely on store associates to complete tasks like making store reports.
